So not what I wanted to read today:
“…On the face of it, a combination between Capricorn and Libra may not seem the best of matches…”
As much as I enjoy reading my horoscope to see how accurate, twisted or completely WRONG the forecast may be, one area I’d never really given much thought to was the compatibility aspect. I’m not one of those special people who have to read it every day to see if I’m going to have the best day ever or a crappy-should-stay-at-home kind of day, figure if I should pay my rent or buy a new pair of shoes or if I should break up a friendship. Nope, I don’t believe in lucky numbers either (unless I’m at the roulette table). I’m the random kind of woman who checks to see what the sun sign astrology geeks are saying about someone I know and love so dearly – myself, the Capricorn.
I always wondered if I was born to the type of person my birth name says I am or if I learned to become that type of person because it was expected of me. The same with applies when it comes to my sign, because with the exception of a few items, whenever I read the generic (non-daily) horoscope for the Capricorn it is right on the money. I mean really, to a tee.
Up until a few weeks ago, I’d never given any thought to astrology in relation to relationship compatibility but after having read a post by a fabulous writer who goes by the name of Marvi Marti’s (http://marvimarti.com/2011/06/08/the-dating-diaries-omg-wtf-fml/), I suddenly became a little more interested in the concept that it is possible to believe that just as some people are meant to be together, others are not.
What do you believe makes people compatible with each other and can your date and time of birth, a few clicks left of the sun and a direct ray of light dictate who you should avoid?
Am I spinning my wheels with Rescue because his actions before our reunion seemed a little reckless and hasty without consideration for consequences? Has Kim been wasting her time on a man whose bold fire sign comes into conflict with her practicality? I wonder if Tina has ever considered that her “special” relationship was doomed before it even began since her guy is probably fire, water, ice, gravel and every other one not yet named?
I admire Marti’s candidness in all of her writing, but what stood out about this post was how she shared the realization that every failed relationship she’d ever had was with a man who fell into one of the three signs that she had zero compatibility with. She didn’t say some or most but EVERY relationship. So of course, that got me to thinking and yes – I even scare myself sometimes when I think too much but I’m probably going to test this out a bit and think about the hangover’s and their zodiac signs but for now, here is my disclaimer (actually Marti’s disclaimer because it fits perfectly!):
“… I know, my bible believing friends, God’s Word is crystal clear about trusting in the stars. However I do believe in His unending wisdom that those born at various times of the year will have certain base characteristics. After all, names in scripture carried meanings and were given for reasons similar, characteristics. I think the point was not to trust the stars over Him.”
So before going any further, what my readings have told me are that the Capricorn and Libra go together like mayonnaise and hot sauce.
Is there hope after reading this stuff???
Luckily, I didn’t give up and just send Rescue a text saying “this won’t work” after nearly choking at the content found in the first two sites I’d encountered with compatibility charts. It’s interesting how the more you read into a person, the more certain words and descriptions seem to fit their character and personality.
So I kept browsing and found a few others which weren’t so doom and gloom and since I plan on doing another post with additional details, here’s the gist of what I’ve learned:
– Capricorns are generally the most compatible with Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces.
– Capricorns are the LEAST compatible with Aries (child’s father) and Libra (current beau, Rescue).
I’ll admit, reading horoscopes can be one of those be careful what you ask for type moments. Some of the not-so-good about the two signs included things that seem all too real to me. For instance, one section talked about the Libra being caught up far too often in the area of indecision and for a strong-willed person like the Capricorn, this is not good. I won’t necessarily say Rescue is indecisive but he is completely gray area, whereas I’m black of white. Sometimes I complain that he’s a little difficult to deal with because when it comes to a question like “What would you like” or “Where should we…” his reply is so laidback it’s normally “It doesn’t matter”. That is so not what I want to hear, make a decision dammit!
Ring the bells, sound the alarms because there were a couple of points that were right on. For instance, one of the gripes I have is the uber laidback approach to everything and while it’s a good thing that Rescue is level headed and willing to work for a favorable outcome me? I’m not so calm and rational and will take the “my way or the highway” position in a heartbeat.
Another interesting forecast for the relationship is about the structure itself. One particular horoscope says the Capricorn tends to be the structure of things while the Libra adds the flourishes. Translation: I’ll be the one building the house while he gets to shop for curtains.
Nevertheless, there is was actually a little more positive that sheds some insight to that blanket statement from the beginning of this post that said “On the face of it, a combination between Capricorn and Libra may not seem the best of matches…”
Both signs are quite extreme but it can work.
The Capricorn + Libra relationship is actually a pretty well-rounded union, both interested in a lasting union since both signs are marriage-minded and that I can attest to that. Rescue is definitely falling under his chart description after having made his way to the alter twice and while I’ve yet to say “I do”, we all know that I’m preparing myself for a fulfilling and long lasting union with my life partner.
Going a bit further, I learned that being the goat, I know the value of a good, clear mind but find the wit and charm of the Libra entertaining. The Libra is known for bringing ease to conversations which allows the Capricorn to open up. Well, the latter is one of those eyebrow raised in skeptical moments I mentioned earlier because for those who know me, opening up is no difficult feat. Still, I find some truth in a way because I feel so comfortable with Rescue, practically liberated. I can feel, say and act how I want without fear of being judged. The things I’ve shared with him, showed him and done to and for him. Mmm.
(Insert dreamy eyes here)
So after all this, what am I saying? I believe there is some semblance of truth to the astrological readings in relation to people and compatibility and at the end of the day; it’s all about what you do to make a relationship work, no matter what the differences.
Until there’s a cure for the hangovers…
Carmen ~
I actually believe in this stuff, I really like reading horoscopes because I do believe the personalities are matched to the sign quite well. But I also believe that it’s also very dependent on how they were raised to view qualities and mannerisms and behaviours, because their interpretation could be very different than yours 🙂
I agree Simmarah, it’s plausible and really can depend on other factors. From what I’ve learned about my own sign, it’s pretty accurate.
Just for shits and giggles, I am still going to go back and analyze the hangovers!
Well…. I think there might be some truth to horoscopes too.
Maybe I’ll go back and evaluate my formers and see if there were any similarities in their ways with the sign.
Roll with what makes you happy.
Do it Kendall, just to prove me wrong if anything.
But really, dating is such an interesting strategy, I’m open to any help I can get!
Fate, luck, whatever… It’s all a crap shot. My horoscope could tell me I’m lying next to the man of my dreams even though I know he’s the WORST one yet. Lol!!
I grew tired gauging compatibility by zodiac signs; can’t really connect the stars to a person’s behavior. 🙂
It’s simply tedious. It’d be simpler and saner to get into conversations and engage into several activities with the person you wished to get to know well.
I know Issa, you’re probably right but the way I see it – any little bit of help I can get in actually figuring out where I may be going wrong in the selection of men!!! I pray about it and am either not listening or unable to decipher the signs that say RUN.
What’s left, instinct?
